Madison Connecticut Nature Walk 06/07/2023

I took a nature walk on a trail in my town in Connecticut. The trail is not near any major roads and doesn't see too much traffic, but it is by no means remote. While the smoke was noticeable, it did not seem as bad in the woods. I saw a lot of biodiversity on my trip, and noticed many types of fungi and other plants. To be honest, I have no idea w...

This evening I was playing with my dog in the backyard and observing some plants.
I was out there for around 30 mins (from 5:45-6:10 pm)
The weather was super nice -around 75 degrees and still sunny
As my dog was chasing and barking at a basketball I noticed many new flowers starting to bloom as well as a lot of ants and a few squirrels.

Lophopagurus pumilus was isolated from Pagurixus hectori.

While examining iNat's Pagurixus hectori registration data, I found an unfamiliar species mixed in with the data, so I located a Lophopagurus pumilus with matching characteristics in a New Zealand paper.

Senseless caution, how it could be adressed

Something I think could be improved about the design of INat, as a website.

Problem: what I call "senseless caution", both from the human identifiers and the AI: IDing something as a single-species taxon, instead of that species, for example "genus Elona" instead of "Elona quimperiana", or I think "Class Ginkgoopsida" is a striking example with only Ginkgo biloba in it. There's never a reason to register such IDs and they can always be improved without any loss of accuracy. (Log...

2023 Ecoregional Bioblitzes

The Northern Rocky Mountain Biodiversity Challenge (NRMBC) is a free, tri-annual, crowd-sourced, 4 day collaboration known as a bioblitz. It is modelled after the largest bioblitz, the once yearly springtime international City Nature Challenge (CNC). It's an ecoregional competition, comprised of 106 individual projects in jurisdictions that intersect in whole, or in part, with the Yellowstone to Yukon ecoregion.

The second of the 3 begins on June 8, 2023:
